Dental Cleanings & Exams
Taking good care of your oral health is important if you want your teeth to stay strong and last a long time. One of the easiest ways you can do this is by scheduling regular dental exams and cleanings at our Houston dental office.
You can trust Dr. Missonne and our team to give you all the information you need to keep your teeth in top shape. Enjoying great oral health is easy when you follow simple steps like good oral hygiene, proper diet, and regular dental visits.
Why Exams and Cleanings Are Important
We strongly recommend dental exams and cleanings twice a year. If you aren’t having any dental problems at the moment, we want to keep it that way. But teeth that feel okay may not really be healthy – decay and gum disease can cause damage before you even know they exist. That’s why it’s so important to see us regularly.
We believe in using the latest technology when it benefits you. Our intraoral camera lets us get a magnified picture of all the surfaces of your teeth so that we can easily see what's going on. We’ll take comfortable digital x-ray images and check your teeth for problems or changes since your last visit. When we see you regularly, we can take care of problems before they become complicated and expensive to fix.
During these exams, we can also decide if you or your child will benefit from fluoride application or dental sealants. Both procedures protect teeth by making them stronger and less likely to get cavities.
Dental Cleanings Ensure Good Oral Health
Brushing and flossing properly are important if you want your teeth to stay healthy. But even if you do an excellent job cleaning your teeth at home, you still need to have professional dental cleanings done by a trained hygienist. This is because a professional cleaning gets into the tiny spaces between your teeth where a toothbrush can’t reach. Without regular cleanings, food particles, plaque, and bacteria start to damage your teeth, leading to cavities and periodontal (gum) disease.
How We Treat Gum Disease
Sometimes, even when you take good care of your teeth, you may develop gum disease. When this happens, a thorough dental cleaning may be enough to solve the problem. Our hygienist will also make suggestions about the best ways to take care of your teeth to prevent gum disease from coming back.
If we find that your gum disease is more serious, we will recommend a deep cleaning. During this type of cleaning, we will carefully remove all traces of plaque and tartar from your teeth and smooth the surface of your teeth and roots. We’ll see you for follow-up cleanings to make sure that every trace of gum disease is gone.
